It is a very common practice for the Uttar Pradesh government to change the names of places, stations, hospitals, and roads. This is for the Nth time that a name has been changed in Uttar Pradesh. However, this decision has not been taken by the UP government but by the Ministry of Railways.
As per the announcement made by Railway officials on August 27, 2024, eight railway stations in the Lucknow division of Northern Railways have been officially renamed after saints and freedom fighters.
Major Decision by Indian Railways
The Union Railway Ministry has officially renamed eight railway stations in the Lucknow division of Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the notification issued by Northern Railway on Tuesday, Kasimpur Halt will now be known as Jais City Railway Station, Jais as Guru Gorakhnath Dham, Misrauli as Maa Kalikan Dham, and Bani as Swami Paramhans.

Smriti Irani’s Initiative
Former Amethi Lok Sabha MP Smriti Irani proposed the name changes to the Home Ministry in February, which received approval in March. However, the implementation was delayed due to the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha elections. The official order for the name changes was finally issued on Tuesday.
