Cambodia and Thailand exchanged gunfire on 22 April 2011. Each country blamed the other for instigating the tension. Of late, there have been tensions between Cambodia and Thailand over claims to a piece of territory near the Preah Vihear temple. The ICJ (International Court of Justice) had awarded the Hindu temple to Cambodia in 1962. The temple was declared a world heritage site a few years ago.
