CCEA approved Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Renovation of Medical Colleges

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Renovation of Medical Colleges on 9 January 2014. The Scheme covers both the existing State Government and Central Government medical colleges.

image The Scheme will provide financial assistance for medical colleges to upgrade infrastructure to increase MBBS seats. The increase may be 10000 MBBS seats at the total cost of 10000 crore rupees. Out of the total cost of 10000 crore rupees, share of the Centre would be 7500 crore rupees and that of State/Union Territories share would be 2500 crore rupees.

The funding pattern for the States/Union Territories will be 70:30 and for the North Eastern states and special category states it will be in the ratio of 90:10.
