Centre Appoints New Chief Justices for High Courts, Including Delhi; Discover the Latest Appointments

The Central Government has announced new Chief Justices for eight High Courts to fill key judicial positions. Check out the names of the newly appointed Chief Justices and the courts they will lead.

The Central Government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, has announced the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts to fill important judicial roles. These appointments will maintain smooth operations in the judiciary across different states. 

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal made the announcement regarding these appointments.

How are HC Judges Appointed?

High Court judges are appointed by the President of India. The Chief Justice of a High Court is appointed by the President after consulting the Chief Justice of India and the Governor of the respective state. 

According to Article 217 of the Constitution, the President appoints judges to High Courts after consulting with the Governor of the State, who is also the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

The Chief Justice of the High Court is consulted in case of the appointment of a judge other than the Chief Justice. In cases where a High Court serves more than one state, the President consults the Governors of all the states involved before making the appointment.
