Who Will Benefit From the Revised Wage Rates?
In a major step to support workers, especially in the unorganized sector, the Central Government has raised minimum wages by adjusting the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), according to a statement from the Labour Ministry.
Workers in different sectors such as building construction, loading and unloading, security services, sweeping, cleaning, housekeeping, mining, and agriculture in central government establishments will benefit from the updated wage rates.
When Will the New Minimum Wage Take Effect?
The new wage rates will come into effect on October 1, 2024, following the last revision in April 2024.
Central Government updates the VDA twice every year based on the average increase in the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers over a six-month period. This new update takes into effect every April 1st and October 1st.
