Canara Bank in August 2010 bifurcated its current credit monitoring wing into two separate credit monitoring and credit administration wings. The credit monitoring wing would track the health of advance accounts on an ongoing real-time basis. The credit monitoring wing is expected to reduce the level of stressed accounts by 50 per cent by 31 March 2011. This credit monitoring wing would identify account irregularities such as delay in servicing of interests, excess drawings, etc and prepare a special watch list depending on the extent of irregularities. The wing would have to perform these functions so that such accounts do not degenerate and fall into the non-performing asset (NPA) category.
