National Youth Day 2022 was observed on January 12, 2022 to commemorate the 159th  birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The National Youth Day 2022 theme is ‘It’s all in the Mind’. 

2. (b) IMF

The International Monetary Fund announced on January 11, 2022, that it has appointed Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas as its next Chief Economist. A French-born University of California- Berkley Economist will replace Gita Gopinath as the IMF’s Chief Economist who will be joining the IMF management team in January 2022. 

3. (a) China

China's northern city of Tianjin ordered a second round of COVID-19 testing of all 14 million residents on January 12, 2022 after discovering 97 cases of omicron variant during initial screenings that began on January 9th. The discovery hence has put neighbouring city Beijing on high alert. 

4. (d) Bengaluru

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction will be held from February 12-13 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This was confirmed by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel on January 11, 2022.  The news came after IPL's two new teams- Lucknow and Ahmedabad received their formal clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The two new IPL franchises - Lucknow and Ahmedabad- have reportedly been given time till January 22, 2022 to complete their player signing process. The two teams got their formal clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 12, 2022. The two teams can sign up a maximum of three players each with not more than one overseas player ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction in February.

Indian off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of upcoming India vs South Africa ODI series after testing positive for COVID-19 during the camp in Bengaluru. Jayant Yadav has been named as his replacement.

South African all-rounder Chris Morris announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on January 12, 2022. The 34-year-old informed me that he would be bringing the curtains down on his 9-year old international cricket career to take up a coaching role.
