1. (a) Harnaaz Sandhu 

India's Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe 2021 at the 70th Miss Universe Pageant in Eilat, Israel on December 13, 2021. The 21-year-old has created history by bringing home the crown 21 years after Lara Dutta won it in 2000. She was crowned Miss Universe by Mexico's Andrea Meza, the current Miss Universe.

India's Harnaaz Sandhu brought the Miss Universe crown home after a gap of 21 years after Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe in 2000. India's first Miss Universe was Sushmita Sen, who had won the coveted crown in 1994. 

3. (c) Max Verstappen 

Max Verstappen was crowned Formula One world champion after a dramatic season-ending at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 12, 2021. Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton who was heading for his 8th title, to win his first-ever Formula One title. He has become the first Dutch world champion. Hamilton's Mercedes team protested against Verstappen's win. 

4. (b) Varanasi 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated phase 1 of Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on December 13, 2021. The Dham has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 339 crores. The Prime Minister earlier offered prayers to Lord Shiva at Kashi Vishwanath temple.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched a National Helpline Against Atrocities (NHAA) on December 13, 2021 to prevent atrocities on members of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). The toll-free number is 14566 and will be available across the country. 

6. (a) South Africa

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa tested positive for COVID-19 on December 12, 2021. He has mild symptoms and is receiving treatment for the same. The President is on self-isolation in Cape Town. He is fully vaccinated and had recently returned from a trip to West Africa though he had tested negative for COVID-19 upon his return on December 8.

7. (a) Dubai

Dubai has become the very first government in the world to turn 100 percent paperless. Dubai's Paperless Strategy means that the Government will no longer be issuing or asking for paper documents across all of its operations.
