1. (a) 2006

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will travel to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh this evening for a five-day visit to the state. This will be the first time in 15 years that an incumbent Indian President takes a train route to reach his destination. The last time an incumbent President travelled by train was when Dr APJ Abdul Kalam boarded a special train from Delhi to Dehradun in 2006 to attend a passing out parade of cadets at the Indian Military Academy.

2. (c) Israel 

Israeli researchers informed on June 24, 2021, that they have found bones belonging to a ‘new type of early human’ who was previously unknown to science. The latest discovery has shed new light on the course of human evolution.

3. (d) Zhang Zhizhen

Zhang Zhizhen has become the first Chinese man to qualify for Wimbledon in the Open era after he beat Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo 6-0 6-3 6-7(4) 7-6(6) in the qualifiers on June 24, 2021. Overall, the world No. 178 is the only fourth Chinese man to play singles in the main draw of a Grand Slam since the Open era began in 1968.

Wimbledon is scheduled to start from June 28, 2021 in London, United Kingdom. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam event that had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will return in its usual slot this year.

5. (a) June 25th

The International Day of the Seafarer is observed every year on June 25th to recognise the invaluable contribution of seafarers towards international trade and the economy at large. This year, the day was observed as an opportunity to express gratitude to seafarers who were on the frontline amid the COVID-19 pandemic facing difficulties around port access, re-supply, repatriation and crew changeovers.
