According to media sources, the Dalai Lama, a Tibetan spiritual leader, received Z-category security on Thursday from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) based on intelligence threat assessments.
The security of the Dalai Lama has been upgraded based on the Intelligence Bureau's threat assessment report.
Death Threat to Dalai Lama
Following his escape from Chinese authority in Tibet in 1959, the respected Tibetan spiritual guru has been residing in India. The Indian government offers him high-level security cover because of his worldwide popularity and the delicate geopolitical concerns surrounding Tibet.
Indian authorities have made protecting the Dalai Lama a major priority after intelligence reports over the years suggested that he could be threatened by a number of organizations, including those supported by China.
What does Z Security Mean?
This expanded security arrangement will provide the 89-year-old spiritual leader with 33 security professionals, including commandos who will form an armed escort in shifts, personal security officers who will provide round-the-clock protection, and armed static guards stationed at his residence.
Additionally, to guarantee his protection, trained drivers and monitoring staff will be on duty constantly.
