The 2024 U.S. presidential election is coming to an end. The election shaped into an extremely close race for the Republicans and the Democrats. The Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump is competing closely with Democratic candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to the latest opinion polls, Trump holds a slight lead over Harris in each swing state. These crucial states include North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Because results in these states can easily shift, they are expected to play a decisive role in determining who will occupy the White House for the next four years.
How Many Electoral Votes Are Needed to Win US Election?
To win the US presidency, a candidate needs a minimum of 270 votes out of the total 538 electoral votes. There are some states whose results are uncertain in the polls. These states will emerge as the Kingmaker of this election.
The state of Pennsylvania has 19 electoral votes, North Carolina and Georgia have 16 each, Michigan has 15, Arizona has 11, Wisconsin has 10, and Nevada has 6, adding up to a total of 93 electoral college votes. These votes can be a deciding factor in the results of this election.
Currently, Trump is leading in North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, while Harris has an edge in Wisconsin. Both candidates are heading to North Carolina this Saturday, hoping to rally more support in this important southeastern battleground state.

So far, over 70 million Americans have already cast their ballots. While this is slightly lower than the record-breaking early voting numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it still shows high voter enthusiasm.

The U.S. presidential election is set for November 5, 2024. Since the early 1800s, the country has held presidential elections on the first Tuesday in November.
Before 1845, states held elections on different days. However, a law passed that year made Election Day the same across the country, choosing the first Tuesday of November as the official voting day.
