Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd launched Cresp, which is the first generic darbepoetin alfa drug in the world on 9 August 2010. Cresp would be used for the treatment of anaemia cuased by chronic kidney disease and anaemia caused by chemotherapy. Each dosage of the drug that comes in vials and pre-filled syringes is priced at Rs 900. Cresp was the third biosimilar drug produced by Dr Reddy’s after Grafeel and Reditux. For the first time Darbepoetin alfa was developed and launched by Amgen in 2001 under the brand of Aranesp.
