18 June: Goa Revolution Day

About Goa Revolution Day

On 18 June 1946, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr. Juliao Menezes asked of the Goans (people of Goa) to stand against the oppression from the Portuguese and to fight for their freedom. They sought to unite the Goans for a common cause and those were for a better life and better future and freedom from oppression. Since then, this day was remembered as the Goa Revolution Day. So 18 June is celebrated as Revolution Day (Kranti Din) to commemorate the saga of the struggle of the people of Goa for freedom.
