Government approved installation of CCTV and GPS on public transport vehicles

CCEA approved a proposal for setting CCTVs and GPS devices on public transport vehicles in 32 cities for women safety.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 2 January 2014 approved a proposal for setting-up of CCTVs and GPS devices on public transport vehicles in 32 cities for women safety.

The CCTV’s will be installed under a unified system named National Vehicle Security and Tracking System at national level and City Command and Control Centre for global positioning system at state level. This will help in mapping the routes of the public vehicles and it will also help in tracking the vehicles on their route. The violations will be highlighted through the visual and text signals.

This facility will help in offering safety and security to women and girl child in distress in minimum response time. The complete project will be implemented at a total estimated cost of 1405 crore rupees and it will be executed within a period of two years.
