Hockey India on 2 September 2017 sacked Roelant Oltmans, who served as the head coach of the men’s hockey team.
The step was taken following a three-day meeting of the Hockey India High Performance and Development Committee.
Oltmans is the sixth Indian coach to be sacked in the last 10 years.
Hockey India Selection Committee selection committee chairman Harbinder Singh stated that the decision was taken due to the unsatisfactory performance of the Indian team in 2016 and 2017. He said, “The Committee was convened since we are collectively not satisfied with the Indian Men’s Hockey team’s performance in 2016 and 2017 and feels that wins in Asia cannot be a benchmark for success anymore.”
High Performance Director David John will take charge in the interim until a suitable replacement has been decided upon.
