A volcano under a glacier in Iceland around Eyjafjallajokull erupted on 14 April 2010 melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air and forcing hundreds of people to leave their homes. 800 residents had to be evacuated from the adjacent locality. The eruption led the rivers to rise by 3 mt. The volcano situated 120 km east of Reykjavik last erupted in 20 March 2010 after almost 200 years of silence.
