Forty one students from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka received medals, cash prizes and merit certificates for their outstanding performance in the Ignou-Unesco Science Olympiad 2010 on 14 November 2010. The Olympiad organized by Ignou and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) aims at providing young people from the SAARC region with a unique competitive platform where they can prove themselves. The initiative is an attempt to encourage students to participate in national and international science and IT competitions and programmes.
