In Nepal, ban on smoking in public places comes into effect from 7 August 2011. According to the Tobacco Control and Regulatory Act-2010, those smoking in public places will be fined and civil servants will be liable to departmental action.


The Tobacco Control and Regulation Act-2068 bans smoking in government offices, educational and health institutions, public vehicles, daycare centres, orphanages, old-age homes, clubs, airports, public toilets, industries, restaurants, factories, theatres, cinema halls, hotels, canteens, hostels, lodges and religious places. Those violating the law are subject to pay fine from 100 rupees up to 100000 rupees.
