India and Senegal discussed possibilities of cooperation in Fertiliser Sector in the second week of April 2011. The draft MoU proposed to be signed at the Govt-to-Govt. level was forwarded to the Senegalese authorities through the Indian Embassy in 2008 and response of the Senegalese side is awaited. If Senegalese side agrees, a task force will be constituted between the two countries to carry forward techno-commercial feasibility in exploiting the Matam mines for the benefit of the two countries. Senegalese side expressed their willingness to cooperate with the Indian side for the same.
The meeting was held between Abdoulaye Balde, senior Minister, Mining, Industry, Agro-Industry and SME, Republic of Senegal and Srikant Kumar Jena, Minister of State, Chemicals and Fertilisers to dicuss the matter.
