India and the World observed on 23 March 2013 observed the Earth Hour that was organised by World Wide Fund for Nature. Earth Hour is celebrated every year to create awareness about conservation of energy and climate change.
People across the country expressed their commitment towards nature by switching off their lights for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 PM on 23 March 2013. Many important markets and monuments of the country went into darkness for an hour.
Great landmarks of the world, like Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building also went into darkness to generate concern towards climate change.
Earth Hour
Earth Hour, the worldwide event is organised by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is annually organised in March’s End. The event first started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia and was conceived by Leo Burnett and WWF. Earth Hour mainly aims towards raising awareness towards the need of taking action on climate change.
