Bangladesh authorities detained Indian ship, MV Ocean Pearl after a Bangladesh court issued an arrest order on 23 December 2010. The arrest order was issued over a suit claiming compensation for the alleged loss of cargo. The ship has been detained at Patenga which is 14 km south of the port city of Chittagong. A cargo supplier has sought a compensation of over Taka 190 million ($27000) as the ship was alleged of leaking oil into the sea . The ship was carrying over 16000 tones of fertilizer from China for the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation. Also, the department of environment in Chittagong on 23 Dec 2010 had served a show cause notice to Sigma Shipping Ltd, the local agent of the ship for spilling oil along the coastline.
