The ICC World Cup is considered as the premier international tournament in the field of men's One Day International (ODI) cricket. It was inaugurated in 1975. The first Cricket World Cup tournament was played in England with six Test-playing participant nations; viz. Australia, England, the West Indies, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan, along with Sri Lanka and a composite team from East Africa.

ICC World Cup is organised by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC). This tournament is held in every four years. The introduction of the ICC Trophy competition to select non-Test playing teams for the World Cup was held in 1979.
The Indian cricket team won the Cricket World Cup, 1983 and Cricket World Cup, 2011. It was runner-up in the 2003 Cricket World Cup against Australia. India became one of the semifinalists in the Cricket World Cup, 1996 and in the Cricket World Cup, 1987.

About the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy

The winners of the World Cup finals receive the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy. The presentation of the world cup trophy was started in the beginning of the World Cup history i.e., 1975. Prudential was the official sponsor of the world cup till 1983. After 1983, the sponsors kept changing from time to time. In 1987, Reliance had sponsored the world cup. In 1992, Benson and Hedges sponsored the world cup. In 1996, Wills sponsored the world cup. With the change of the sponsors, the design of the trophy also keeps changing.

In 1999, International Cricket Council had come with the idea of awarding its own trophy to the winner team. A new design was set for ICC’s permanent trophy in 1999 and after that the design was carried on till now.
•    A team from Garrad and co. is the maker of the ICC trophy
•    The height of trophy is 60cms
•    The weight of the ICC world cup trophy is 11 kilograms
•    It is made of silver and gold
•    ICC trophy features a golden globe held up by three silver columns.
•    The columns are shaped as stumps
•    The bails represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket i.e., batting, bowling and fielding
•    The globe c represents a cricket ball
•    The names of the previous winners are carved out on the base of the trophy, with a space for a total of twenty inscriptions.

Difference between ICC owned trophy and the trophy given
There are two similar world cup trophies. One is owned by ICC with the winners' names written on it. Another trophy is devoid of names and is presented to the ultimate winner.

The basic difference between ICC owned trophy and the trophy given is the inscriptions written on it. The ICC keeps the trophy which consists of all winners’ names inscribed on it. The winner team holds the trophy which is a replica and it does not bear the names of previous holders of the trophy. The trophy is kept in the custody of the winning country.
