Securities giant Nomura Holdings Inc. on 7 March 2011 named a woman, Junko Nakagawa as chief financial officer (CFO) and executive managing director of the company. The leading brokerage firm for the first time appointed a female employee as its executive officer, or CFO, since it started business operations in 1925.
Nakagawa who is a native of Nara Prefecture, graduated from Kobe University and joined Nomura Securities Co. in 1988. She served as the section chief of the company's finance department before she resigned in 2004. She became the president of the group's consulting business for medical institutions, Nomura Healthcare Co., in 2008.
She served as Nomura Holding's co-vice CFO since June 2010.
