Hyderabad-based CVR Group-promoted Krishnapatnam Port on 5 July 2011 tied up with State-run inland transport services provider Container Corporation of India (Concor). The objective is to provide seamless movement of container traffic from the port to the hinterland by developing rail infrastructure.

Currently, the Krishnapatnam port located on the east coast of the country, handles only bulk cargo such as iron ore and coal. The company has set up two berths that can handle up to one million 20-feet equivalent unit (TEU) containers annually.

Krishnapatnam Port and CONCOR decided to jointly develop the required rail infrastructure to cater to the growing container movement after the container terminal at Krishnapatnam Port goes operational.

Under the agreement, both the companies decided to develop container freight station at the port and inland container depots in the hinterland. They will also explore various business opportunities to service container and export-import related trade. The companies also will develop container freight station (CFS) at the port and inland container depots (ICD).

CONCOR and KPCL would jointly strive to provide seamless, efficient supply chain solutions to the export-import fraternity and help in making exports from India competitive.

CONCOR is the Mini-Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways and the largest player in the inland container rail freight segment with more than 200 high-speed container rakes.
