Australia’s leading mining contractor Leighton, on 2nd December, 2010 bagged 5.5 billion US dollar contract from India’s NTPC (Formerly National Thermal Power CorporationLtd). Leighton holdings’ subsidiary Thiess bagged the 22 year contract for developing and operating the Greenfield Pakri Barwadih coal mine.
NTPC is state owned enterprise and nation's largest electricity generator. This contract is one of the largest ever awrded by NTPC.
