LinkedIn announced to launch of Chinese version of its site on 25 February 2014.  The Chinese language website will be a beta or test version of the site.

China will give a license to the company but the company will have to locate its servers in China and allow the local government to control content in the manner it does with Chinese social media sites.

LinkedIn already has more than 4 million users in China who use its English language website, but the company has signaled that it is interested in making a broader expansion in the country.

China has the world's largest online community with more than 618 million users. However, Great Firewall of China Government blocks any online forums or content deemed to be sensitive. For instance, China had barred access to Facebook and Twitter for several years.

Even China's Supreme Court ruled in October 2013 that Internet users could face three years in jail if slanderous information spread online was viewed more than 5000 times or forwarded more than 500 times.
