Mahindra South Africa on 11 February 2014 announced that they had the best annual sales in the year 2013. This sale is the largest over a decade, since Mahindra became operational in South Africa. Mahindra credited government tenders a reason that bolstered the sale of its vehicles in the country.
The company in its announcement said that it had sold 4056 units of different range that it offers in South Africa. This sale has maintained the consistent upwards sales trend with a four percent increase as compared to the sales of 2013.
Mahindra South Africa was successful in several state tenders and had supplied a variety of products like Bolero, Xylo and Scorpio SUVs to government departments. It had sold 200 units of cars to the government in 2013.
The company also said that people interest in its brand SsangYong has also increased. In 2012, Mahindra started selling SsangYong in South African market. At present the company has 57 dealer networks across the country of which 5 emerged in 2013.
