The Malaysian government on 29 January 2015 officially declared the disappearance of Malaysian Airline flight MH370 an accident and said that there were no survivors.

The declaration was made by the Director General of Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Azharuddin Abdul Rahman in accordance with standards of annexes 12 and 13 of the International Civil Aviation.

With this announcement, the way for the airline to pay compensation to victims’ relatives was cleared. But the search for the plane will continue.

Besides this, DCA has planned to release an interim report on its crash investigation on 7 March 2015, a day before the first anniversary of the disappearance of the aircraft.

The Beijing-bound Boeing 777 aircraft carrying 239 passengers and crew on board disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur on 8 March 2014. Since disappearance, neither the plane nor its whereabouts were found despite a massive international search in the southern Indian Ocean.
