Goa tops Gender Vulnerability Index, Bihar, UP at bottom

The Gender Vulnerability Index (GVI) prepared by Child development NGO Plan India has ranked the state of Goa at the top and Bihar at the bottom.

The other two states to occupy the top positions include Kerala and Mizoram, which were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. Bihar was joined by Uttar Pradesh at the bottom, while Delhi was placed near bottom at the 24th place.

The composite index, which provides a state wise ranking, has been calculated on the basis of four important dimensions - Health, Education, Protection and Poverty.

Mukesh Ambani becomes Asia's richest person!

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, became Asia’s richest person on 1 November 2017, overtaking China’s Hui Ka Yan.

Ambani, whose total estimated wealth is $42.1 billion, got a boost of $466 million courtesy 1.22 per cent rise in shares of Reliance Industries to Rs 952.30.On the other hand, the total estimated wealth of Chinese businessman Hui Ka Yan, went down by $1.28 billion to $40.6 billion on the same day.

Telangana government increases backward classes creamy layer ceiling

The Telangana government has increased the annual income limit to determine the creamy layer of OBCs/BCs with respect to reservations in employment by Rs 2 lakh.

With the move, the present annual income limit of 6 lakh rupees has been increased to Rs 8 lakh. The government orders were issued by the principle secretary of the Backward Classes Welfare Department. The central government had recently increased the annual income limit to determine the creamy layer among OBCs from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh.

Food Regulatory Portal to be launched during World Food India 2017

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India have announced the launch of a powerful new tool called the ‘Food Regulatory Portal’ during World Food India 2017.

The new portal, planned as a single interface for food businesses to cater to both domestic operations and food imports, would be a game changer for effective and transparent implementation of the food safety laws in the country. It is also strategically aligned with union government’s mission of One Nation, One Food Law.
