Aadhaar – Mobile Number linking simplified by DoT
The Department of Telecom (DoT) on 25 October 2017 introduced three new methods to link the registered mobile number with Aadhaar Number.
These simplified methods are OTP (One Time Password) based, App based and the IVRS facility. These methods will help subscribers to get their mobile number linked to Aadhaar without visiting the stores of the telecom operators.
As per the new guidelines, the telecom operators will provide an online mechanism for people to request such service and based on availability, visit will be scheduled leading to the completion of the Aadhaar – Mobile Number linking process.
SC asks UP, Rajasthan, Haryana to ban use of pet coke to curb air pollution
The Supreme Court (SC) on 24 October 2017 directed the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan to ban the use of pet coke and furnace oil in the industries with an aim to fight air pollution.
A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta also clarified that their failure to do so will force the apex court to ban these materials from 1 November 2017.
The bench also fined Union Environment Ministry with Rs 2 lakh for not finalising pollution emission standards for industries using pet coke and furnace oil in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Puducherry becomes an associate member of BCCI
The Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) was on 25 October 2017 chosen as an Associate Member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
With this, Puducherry will now be allowed to play the Ranji Trophy in 2018. Puducherry can also now host both international matches and the Board’s domestic games.
