Putin reiterates his call for dialogue with North Korea
Russian President Vladimir Putin on 6 September 2017 reiterated his call for dialogue with North Korea after meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. The two met on the sidelines of an international economic forum that opened in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East today. After their meeting, Putin held a news conference.
He condemned North Korea but said it is hard to resolve the issue through only sanctions and pressure. He said countries should not give in to emotions and push Pyongyang into a corner. Putin also disclosed a plan for Russia and South Korea to work together to supply electricity and gas to the North.
India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in one-off T-20 International cricket match
India on 6 September 2017 defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the one-off T20 International cricket match in Colombo. Skipper Virat Kohli's blazing blade ensured a comfortable win in the game as the visitors completed a 9-0 rout of Sri Lanka.
Set to score 171 runs for a win, Team India surpassed the target by making 174 for 3 in 19.2 overs. Skipper Virat Kohli top scored with 82 off 54 balls while Manish Pandey remained unbeaten on 51. India has already swept the Test series 3-nil and the ODI series 5-nil.
Nirmala Sitharaman to assume charge as Defence Minister today
Nirmala Sitharaman will assume charge as the Defence Minister on 7 September 2017 in New Delhi. She will take the charge from Arun Jaitley who is holding the additional charge of the Ministry since March 2017.
Sitharaman will become the first full-time woman Defence Minister of India. She was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister on 3 September 2017. She was serving as Commerce and Industry Minister since May 2014.
