The executive committee of the Madras Music Academy in July 2011 unanimously chose Mridangam maestro Professor Trichy Sankaran to preside over the 85th annual conference of the Academy scheduled to be held from 15 December 2011 to 1 January 2012.
The Music Academy, Madras decided to present the Sangita Kala Acharya awards to vocalists Neela Ramgopal and Rama Ravi during its 85th annual conference.
The Academy also decided to honour Mayavaram Somasundaram (kanjira) and T.R. Navaneetham (flute) with the TTK Awards. The Papa Venkataramaiah Award for violin will be conferred upon Trivandrum Subramanya Sarma.
The Academy decided to give the newly instituted Natya Kala Acharya Award for dance to Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Subramaniam at the inauguration of the dance festival on 3 January 2012.
