Muhammad Yunus Accused of Stashing 100 million USD

Bangladeshi Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus accused of misappropriating funds.

Norwegian National Television on 1 December 2010 aired a documentary accusing Bangladeshi Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus of drawing off Tk 7 billion (USD 100 million) in aid for poor borrowers of Grameen Bank to another company. Media investigation titled Fanget I Mikrogjeld or Caught in Micro debt established that Yunus transferred the money to Grameen Kalyan, a voluntary healthcare programme of poor, which  the investigation proved was in no way involved with microcredit operations.

Yunus’ experiment of poor men's banking had earlier earned Bangladesh the repute of being the home of microcredit.

Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi economist and founder of the Grameen Bank. Grameen Bank is an institution that provides microcredit (small loans to poor people possessing no collateral) to help its clients establish creditworthiness and financial self-sufficiency. In 2006 Yunus and Grameen received the Nobel Prize for Peace.
