President Droupadi Murmu made a political change by appointing two new governors and reassigning three others, affecting five states and illustrating the continuous difficulties in governance.
These developments coincide with escalating ethnic conflict and tensions in areas such as Manipur.
New Governor for Manipur
In the most recent governorship appointments, Ajay Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, has been named the new governor of Manipur.
He takes over for Anusuiya Uikey, who served in that capacity during a turbulent time. Since May 2023, Bhalla has had to deal with growing violence and unsolved ethnic tensions, making his administrative skills vital.
Given that the state has seen ethnic conflict leading to violence between the Kuki tribes and the Meitei population since May 2023, the nomination to the Manipur Raj Bhavan is noteworthy. Anusuiya Uikey was the last full-time Governor of the state. Since July, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been managing Manipur's additional responsibilities.
Arif Mohammed Khan Transferred to Bihar
Another important political action is the change of Kerala's governors. Mr. Khan had frequently clashed with the State's Left Front government. As a result, he was moved to Bihar, and Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the current governor of Bihar, was appointed the new governor of Kerala.
Gen V.K. Singh: New Governor of Mizoram
The other significant appointment is of former Union Minister General V. K. Singh (Retd.) as the new Governor of Mizoram.
Gen. Singh, a former Indian Army chief, was a member of the Union Council of Ministers and ran successfully for the Lok Sabha twice, in 2014 and 2019, from the Uttar Pradesh constituency of Ghaziabad on a BJP ticket. However, he was not given a ticket by the party for the 2024 election.
New Governors Appointed in 5 States
Check the table below to get to know about the recent Governor appointments made by President Murmu:
State | New Governor | Previous Governor |

Bihar | Arif Mohammed Khan | Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar |
Odisha | Hari Babu Kambhampati | Raghubar Das |

These reassignments and appointments demonstrate the government's approach to successfully tackling regional issues. The political atmosphere in these states may alter as a result of changes in leadership.
