Indian Railways (IRCTC) has introduced new rules for the train ticket bookings. This decision aims to make the process of booking tickets smoother and a lot easier for passengers. If you frequently travel by train, then this article is for you. Check the latest IRCTC rules here.
One of the major changes done by IRCTC is reduction of their Advance Reservation Period (ARP). Now, passengers can book tickets 60 days before their travel date, instead of the earlier 120 days. This change has been introduced to prevent brokers from taking advantage of the longer booking period.
Ticket Booking Window Cut to 60 Days
The biggest change in railway ticket booking is that the advance reservation period has been shortened to 60 days, down from 120 days. This means passengers can now book their tickets 60 days before their travel date, instead of the earlier 120 days.
New IRCTC Rules Effective From
The new IRCTC train booking rules will come into effect from November 1, 2024. These changes aim to prevent ticket brokers from misusing the long booking period.

New Rules Does Not Apply to
The new rule will apply to both AC and non-AC classes. The goal is to make it easier for passengers to plan their journeys and adjust bookings if their travel plans change.
The new rule will not affect tickets already booked. According to railway sources, these changes are meant to simplify travel planning and ensure that passengers' time and money aren't wasted in case of cancellations.
Tickets booked with the previous 120-day advance reservation period until October 31, 2024, will still be valid. Under the new rules, passengers will be able to cancel tickets if they were booked more than 60 days in advance.
AI Use in Indian Railways
Indian Railways is now using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve its services. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared that AI has been used to check seat availability, resulting in a 30% increase in confirmed tickets.
Additionally, AI-based cameras have been installed to monitor cleanliness in railway kitchens.
