The Prasar Bharati Board on 7 June 2011 approved the working plan for expansion of Doordarshas DTH platform to 200 channels by the year end and a proposal for eduction of channels on this platform. The Board's approval came at a time when the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has already initiated discussions with several private broadcast players to join Doordarshans DTH platform which is a free-to-air service.
The board also approved the proposed guidelines for procurement of Hindi feature films for Doordarshan channels and amendment in guidelines for commissioned programmes. The proposal was made to clear the way for out of court settlements of more than Rs 400 crore worth of arbitration issues involving Prasar Bharati.
The Board also approved allowing cross channel advertising from other broadcasters and DTH operators on Doordarshan channels. The board declared that a special high-level negotiating empowered team will take this up on a priority basis.
