Sachin Tendulkar selected as goodwill ambassador for 35th National Games

Sachin Tendulkar has been appointed as the goodwill ambassador of 35th National Games, Kerala scheduled to be held from January-February 2015.

Sachin Tendulkar on 27 May 2014 was selected as the goodwill ambassador of 35th National Games that is scheduled to be held in Kerala from January-February 2015. The games will be held in seven cities of the state.

35th National Games

Sachin was selected as the ambassador during his meeting with Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala. Besides, Oommen Chandy also announced the name of the Kochi franchise team owned by Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian Super League Football Tournament. The team owned by Sachin will be called Kerala Blasters Football Club.

About National Games

The origin of the National games lies in the Olympic Movement that started in late 1920s. This led to launching of 9th edition of the Indian Olympic Games at Lahore in undivided Punjab in 1924.

The Indian Olympic Games were held as National Games from 1940 onwards. The first National games after independence was hosted by Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh in 1948.

The duration and the regulations of the National Games are entirely within the jurisdiction of the Indian Olympic Association. Although the periodicity of National games is two years it is not allowed to coincide with the years scheduled for the conduct of Olympic Games and Asian Games.

It is for the second time National Games is coming to Kerala. The first occasion was in 1987 when the 27th National Games was held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Kochi, Thrissur and Kollam.

•    2011 – Ranchi, Jharkhand
•    2007 – Guwahati, Assam
