Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Kobe Steel of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tokyo on 30 November 2010 for comprehensive strategic collaboration covering technologies, projects and other areas. The companies aim at building a relationship of mutual benefit under the MoU. SAIL and Kobe will work together to manufacture steel products to meet the fast growing demands of the Indian economy.
SAIL is India's largest steelmaker and has numerous iron ore and coal mines while Kobe Steel has world-class technologies for producing high value-added steel products. Kobe also has also raw material processing and iron unit production including pellets, direct reduced iron and the ITmk3 iron-making process.
