Scientists claimed to find the treatment for Glaucoma in rats, which could lead to an effective treatment for blindness in humans. For their research, the scientists chose healthy stem cells, which can turn themselves into other types of cell, a process which is helpful in repairing the human body. Scientists turned stem cells into retinal ganglion cells and then injected into the eyes of rats infected with glaucoma. After some days, the cells connected themselves with nerve cells and as a result, rats’ eyes worked better.
Glaucoma affects approximately 70 million people in the world. The stem cell therapy developed by the scientists could be tested on humans by 2015.
