Shivsena-BJP alliance won the civic polls of Mumbai and Thane. Result of the polls came on 17 February 2012. The Shivsena-BJP Alliance with total 107 seats in the 227-member Brihanmumbai civic body, emerged triumphant for the fourth consecutive term.
Congress and NCP alliance won in 64 seats. Raj Thackrey led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena recorded victory on 28 Seats.
With an annual budget of Rs. 22000cr Brihanmumbai Civic Body is India’s richest civic body. 18 states in the country have lesser budget than Brihanmumbai Civic Body.
In Thane, the ruling Sena-BJP-RPI combine won 62 seats in the 130-member corporation, needing just four more for a majority. While the Sena pocketed 53 seats and BJP 8, the RPI managed to win just one seat.
In Pune civic body Congress-NCP together garnered 79 seats and ranked first. NCP, Congress, BJP, MNS and Shivsena won 51, 28, 26,29 and 15 seats respectively in the 152-member corporation.
In the 122-member Nashik corporation the MNS garnered the largest number of 40 seats, The Congress-NCP combine has got 36 and Sena-BJP-RPI alliance 35.
In Pimpri-Chindwad 128-member corporation, The Nationalist Congress Party got the clear majority as it clinched 84 seats whereas its alliance partner Congress won in 15. Shiv Sena won 13, BJP won in 3 seats while MNS remained victorious in 4 seats.
The Sena-BJP alliance emerged winner in Nagpur Municipal Corporation with 68 seats in a 145-member corporation. The Congress won 41 seats and NCP 6.
The 78-member Ulhasnagar Corporation witnessed Shiv Sena bagging 19 seats and BJP 11, while RPI got 4.
In 87-member Amravati Corporation results were as follows:
Congress 18, NCP 5, BJP 18, Shiv Sena 8, BRP-BMS Samyukta Vikas Aghadi 7, UDF 2, Akola Vikas Aghadi 2, Samajawadi Party 1, MNS 1, independents 11.
In 102-member Solapur Municipal Corporation Congress emerged as the biggest party. While Congress bagged total 44 seats, NCP won 16. Shiv Sena got 8 seats, BJP 26 and RPI confined to 1. BSP and CPM won 3 seats each. 1 seat was claimed by an independent candidate.
