Soyuz TMA 17M rocket with three astronauts aboard was successfully launched towards the International Space Station (ISS) on 22 July 2015. The spacecraft blasted off on schedule from Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome in the barren Kazakh steppe, carrying cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren and Kimiya Yui of Japan.
The spacecraft was launched after two-month delay which was caused by failure of a Russian rocket in April 2015.
The three astronauts were originally scheduled to travel to the orbiting lab in May 2015 but Russia put all space travel on hold after the failure of the unmanned Progress freighter taking cargo to the ISS.
