The Supreme Court of India on 7 July 2011 approved of the Lafarge’s plans for limestone mining operations in Meghalaya. The verdict of the Supreme Court will be of great advantage to Lafarge because Meghalaya offers substantial duty on freight rates and other concessions on sales tax and excise duties.
French cement giant Lafarge, through its Indian subsidiary, Lafarge India, has four cement plants in the states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
