The Supreme Court of India on 12 May 2011 gave the ruling that non-minority educational institutions have no right to admit students of their choice and scrapped 100 percent reservation for children of armed forces in the Army college of Medical Sciences(ACMS) in Delhi Cantonment.
A Bench including Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice SS Nijjar gave the ruling. The court stated that denying access of education to socially and educationally backward classes would potentially harm the development of nation.
ACMS is a private institution began in 2008 and it was managed by the Army Welfare Education Society. It was allotted 25 acres of land by ministry of defence.
