Syria on 12 February 2012 rejected the Arab League proposal for deployment of a Joint UN-Arab Peacekeeping mission by the UN Security Council to monitor the situation in the country, describing it as a hostile act that targets Syria's stability and security. Arab League suspended Syria’s membership in November 2011.


The UN General Assembly will take up for discussion the situation in Syria in New York. The focus would be on humanitarian concerns. The General Assembly will discuss a Saudi draft proposal calling for support to Arab League peace plan in Syria. The draft calls for Syrian President to step down. It says those responsible for killings of civilians in Syria should be held accountable.
