Tamil Nadu government sanctioned 1.75 crore rupees for Kabaddi and Squash

Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned 1.75 crore rupees towards conducting two world level events in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu government on 16 January 2014 sanctioned 1.75 crore rupees towards conducting two world level events in Chennai. This step was taken to promote sports even in the state.
 
Ahead of the World Cup Kabaddi matches scheduled to take place here next month, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has allocated Rs one crore towards conducting the event in the state capital.

Players from 20 countries will participate in the event in both men and women categories. The countries that will participate in the event that will be conducted in the fourth week of February 2014 include

• England
• Japan
• South Korea
• Mexico
• Vietnam
• Iran
• Afghanistan
• Nepal
• Pakistan
• Turkmenistan
• Bangladesh
• Thailand
• Malaysia
• Chinese Taipei
• Australia
• Canada
• Italy
• West Indies

The 75 lakh rupees were allocated to conduct the 8th World University Squash Championship. It will be held in the squash indoor stadium in Chennai in December 2014. This event will be the first such event to be held in Asia.  Players from 19 countries will participate in the event namely
