1. (a) Rudra
Indigenously-developed weapon system integrated helicopter Rudra will make its maiden appearance in the Republic Day parade on Rajpath in New Delhi on 26th January 2018. The flypast will be divided into two blocks. The second block will start with Rudra formation comprising Advanced Light Helicopter MK-IV WSI.

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has inaugurated the girl child week, a week-long programme to celebrate the girl child and to create awareness about gender equality, ahead of the National Girl Child Day that is celebrated on 24th January.

Leading messenger application Whatsapp on 18th January 2018 launched ‘Whatsapp Business’, a free-to-download Android app for small businesses to help the businesses communicate better with their customers globally including in India.

India has jumped three places to be placed at the 102nd position in the first FIFA rankings of the year 2018, which were released on 18th January 2018. The three-place jump in the rankings list is all due courtesy to the Indian football team’s performance in the year 2017. The team remained unbeaten the whole year, winning 7 of their total 9 matches, while the remaining two ended in draws.

The state government of Maharashtra has approved a Rs 4000 crore project aimed at promoting climate-resilient agriculture. The main objectives of the project will be to improve soil quality, develop food grain varieties that can sustain climate variations and effect necessary changes in the crop pattern as per the availability of water in a particular region.

A group of archaeologist has discovered the world’s biggest flooded cave in Mexico. The divers connected two underwater caverns in eastern Mexico to reveal what is believed to be the biggest flooded cave on the planet.

The state -run Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) is all set to launch its proposed Kerala Blockchain Academy, the first of its kind in the country. The academy is a joint initiative of IIITM-K and the Blockchain Education Network (BEN), a global network of blockchain communities.
8. (c) Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of coming out with an exclusive Aerospace and Defence policy. Speaking at a meeting organised by the Defence Ministry, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami on 18th January said that the policy's objective is to achieve a 30 per cent share of the defence sector in India and creating high-end employment opportunities for around 100,000 people in the state.

According to a survey released on 18th January 2018, about 48.9 percent of primary and middle school students in China take private lessons. More than half of the students surveyed said that they have to bury their heads in books and had no time to play after school.
10. (a) Russia
Russia and the European Union (EU) have signed agreements to finance and implement two new cross-border cooperation programmes for the period until 2020. The programmes worth 88 million euros involve Russia and its neighbours Lithuania and Poland, both EU members and will focus particularly on the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, the promotion of social inclusiveness, cooperation for a clean natural environment and efficient management of natural resources.
11. (c) Maharashtra
The state of Maharashtra has become the first state to come up with a public cloud policy, virtually mandating its departments to shift their data storage onto the cloud, creating a USD 2 billion opportunity for the industry. The public cloud policy will result in additional private sector investments as the government is one of the biggest creators and consumers of data.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 17th January 2018 inaugurated the iCREATE facility at Deo Dholera Village in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. iCreate is an independent Centre created with the aim of facilitating entrepreneurship through a blend of creativity, innovation, engineering, product design and leveraging emerging technologies.
