Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Ease of Doing Business grand challenge on resolving seven identified ease of doing business problems with the use of cutting-edge technologies. The grand challenge seeks to invite innovative ideas from individuals, start-ups and private enterprises to implement current technology for re-engineering related Government processes.

The Baba Kalyani led committee constituted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to study the existing SEZ policy of India submitted its report to Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu. The Maldives cabinet has approved the proposal to rejoin the Commonwealth, two years after withdrawing from the 53-nation grouping. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has vowed never to allow foreign military bases in his country. The Prime Minister said that the country's Constitution does not permit foreign troops in Cambodia. His remarks come in the wake of a news report that suggested China is pushing for a naval base in southern Cambodia that would potentially provide Beijing with easier access to the South China Sea.
