US Senate Approved New START with Russia

The senate of United States, on 22 December 2010, approved the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) with Russia. The treaty was passed by a majority of 71 to 26 senators.

The New START treaty was signed on 8 April 2010, between USA (United States of America) and Russia in Prague under which both nations separately agreed to limit their total number of nuclear warheads to 1550.

The START treaty was signed between US and Russia on 31 July 1991 and came into force on 5 December 1994.
