Global leader and U.S.-based technology services provider Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) on 14 September 2011 announced the acquisition of Hyderabad-based software testing company AppLabs.
The break-up of the acquisition comprised 50 per cent of the stake from WestBridge, 40 per cent from the promoters (primarily himself) and 10 per cent from employees. this is the second acquisition within two weeks for CSC, a company with 93,000 employees and a reported revenue of $16.2 billion for the 12 months ended 1 July 2011. It earlier acquired Baltimore-based Maricom Systems that is in the business intelligence and data management solutions space.
AppLabs, based out of Philadelphia with its global delivery centre in Hyderabad, was named the largest software testing pureplay globally by analyst group Nelson Hall in 2010. It services 150 customers worldwide, including American Airlines, Experian, JP Morgan, VocaLink and National Australia Bank. There are eight customers that are common to both companies.The global testing services market is pegged at $13 billion and is poised to grow 20 per cent by 2013.
The acquisition is expected to enhance CSC's IT services offering . With the research & development capability of AppLabs, CSC will be able to offer high-value technology to the customers . Also CSC will be able bring down cost and time to market with the blended capabilities of AppLabs , besides enhancing quality.
