The USA on 4 April 2012 eased some sanctions against Myanmar which includes travel and financial sanctions. The announcement came within days of the National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi winning a seat in Parliament and her party sweeping the by-elections.


High-ranking Myanmar officials will now be able to visit the United States and the US will open a development office in Myanmar. The EU is also considering a similar package.
